Many thanks.

Best,

Blair

Just so you know, I confer with Con Edison's Stray Voltage and Public Affairs Units and contribute to Wet Nose Guide and New York Dog Chat.

HOW TO SLAY AN INVISIBLE DANGER.

Blair Sorrel, Founder
http://www.StreetZaps.com

Contact voltage is a chronic hidden hazard that can readily victimize an unsuspecting dog, walker, horse, rider, or both. No dog lover could possibly observe a more horrifying scene than witnessing his beloved pet instantaneously maimed or tragically electrocuted. When you exercise your pooch, please exercise greater prudence. Common outdoor electrical and metal fixtures may shock or even kill your vulnerable dog. And depending upon the current, the walker will be bitten and like poor Aric Roman, suffer permanently. But you can, indeed, self-protect.

Just start to adopt this simple strategy — EYEBALL THE BLOCK, AND AVOID A SHOCK. Take a few seconds and make your trajectory toward generally safer, free standing, non-conductive surfaces, ie., plastic, wood, cardboard. Intuit your dog’s cues and if it’s resistant, change directions. Work site perimeters may be live so try to elude them. If necessary, switch sides of the street or your hands when leading to skirt hazards. If you traverse the same route, you may memorize locations of potential dangers. Carry your pooch when in doubt. Consider indoor restroom products like PottyPark when external conditions are chancy or RopeNGo’s hardware-free leash and harness. And don’t rely on dog booties as a palliative as they will actually put your pet at even greater risk since the dog can’t tell you they’re leaking! To learn to more, please see StreetZaps. A safer walk is yours year round if you are willing to open to your eyes and mind to it.Blair Sorrelhttp://www.streetzaps.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4644446586785283297.post-6983186160824012852011-03-09T20:36:35.046-05:002011-03-09T20:36:35.046-05:00Hip Hip Hooray!!!Hip Hip Hooray!!!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4644446586785283297.post-50483610236549557422011-02-24T16:49:43.216-05:002011-02-24T16:49:43.216-05:00Congratulations, Karina, great work - and thanks f...Congratulations, Karina, great work - and thanks for these stats!
LauraLaurahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17394208100477838739noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4644446586785283297.post-50398780301624045382011-01-25T07:07:55.917-05:002011-01-25T07:07:55.917-05:00Awesome. Although I do recall my grandmother adopting an old husky that she named Prince when I was a kid. The dog came from a pound and wasnt house trained. This dog lived in a dog house in her back yard. Although it lived on the end of a chain in the back yard - my grandmother who lived alone loved this dog, and took care to make sure he had cozy accomidations in his dog house. She made him warm dinners in the winter with food scraps. I even recall her walking him. He provided her with an element of security, and she provided him with food, shelter and love. This dog was older when she adopted him and would likly never have been adopted - but more likely put down. Although I whole heartedly agree that this is no way for a dog to live, I also recognise that barn cats have often similarly hard, lonesome, and rough lives. Yet, rather than being put down people do adopt barn cats - that live their whole lives with little veternary care, and spend nights out in the elements...rather than inside. I agree that society in general needs to better care for animals, but in some instances, for a dog - as with a barn cat (living outside), a life at the end of a chain, may be its only opportunity at life.Erin Jacquenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4644446586785283297.post-35603095351309507122010-07-14T22:40:13.311-04:002010-07-14T22:40:13.311-04:00hi ... How are you ...I commend you for what you are doing. How are you going to interact with the people and companian animals who need you the most? The urban poor of Springfield are a diverse group, many do not speak English and truly have no idea how to properly care for their dogs, cats etc. These are not cruel people, they just don't know how to care for their pets. How are you going tO communicate what you have to offer? Forget the internet. You have to get down to basics, post in the Goodwill stores, grocery stores etc. Let them know about your program. The MSPSA was a chaotic scene but the people of the Springfield area trusted them without reservation.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4644446586785283297.post-14486844655685999552009-08-31T08:30:04.984-04:002009-08-31T08:30:04.984-04:00Thank you, Maria, for helping those little kittens...Thank you, Maria, for helping those little kittens!

Sounds like talking to one of our adoption center staff would be the best way to get help and advice for the kittens. You can reach them at info@dpvhs.org or by calling one of our adoption centers (we open at noon on Tuesday) at 413-548-9898 (Leverett) or 413-781-4000 (Springfield).

In the meantime, keep an eye out for the mom cat. She may have gone out to look for food and will be returning soon. If the kittens continue to vocalize, you may have orphans on your hand.
